Anyone else coming in Wed or earlier ?

Just took the cave tour at Racoon Mountain. Met one the owners of the campground, Steve. Very nice folks and atmosphere here. Checked up and all the reserved sites we have are close together. Also, you just do about a 100 yard walk to the cave entrance from the campground.

There are 5 or six different tours from easy to 6 hours of crawling on your belly and jumping 30 ft deep crevases. Plus they have overnight camping in the cave.

Here is a link to the cave website:

http://www.wildcave.com

We may want to see if any of the group wants to spend the night in the cave one night. They said on weekdays, it is not so crowded, but on weekends there could be over 100 in the cave at night.

By the way, the map on the website does not show the 160's, but they are between the 140's and the racetrack. 166 is by the main road down to 161 that is back where the fitness room is. The 160s point in the direction the 130's do.

Glenn

compulynx

Posted 02 May 2010 - 09:59 PM

Here is a map I updated of the new sites. The map is not to scale, and the field between the Racetrack and the new sites is a large one.

I know the map is too big, but wanted to save the detail.

And yes, the numbering sequence is backwards from all the rest in the 160's. I have no idea why.

We plan to be there also. Site 138. If anyone is interested Lake Winnepesaukah Amusement Park is not to far away. They claim the largest wood roller coaster left in the country.
At least Jerry has so many targets before he gets to us... funny how I still don't find much comfort in that.

For those interested in the cave tour, I attached a copy of the rate sheet. The guide I talked to said on busy weekends, they can have have over 100 spend the night in the cave, so it is not like you would die alone if there was a cave-in. :idontno: And look at it on the bright side, if there was a tornado outbreak, you would be one of the safest folks around. Its all about perspective,LOL.

Oh, and if you carry your campground receipt, you get a few bucks off the prices.

We just got home form Sadler's Creek and I think all who attended would agree we need to pray for NO RAIN for the Fall Rally!!!! The rain interrupted our visiting the last night and we bolted early to beat the next storm.

Curtis & Donna

Posted 16 July 2010 - 11:46 AM

Hey Everyone,

I know we are new here and don't know for sure yet if we will make the rally, but we are trying to work it in without back tracking on our trip.

It is always fun to have an event that we plan for and brings a little fun competition to the rally. How would a no-holds-barred cookoff be recieved? It also serves as a potluck too. It can be open to everyone no matter how you cook, crockpot, pit, oven, smoker whatever. Those that don't cook will judge (not a bad gig). I am sure we have some great cookers out there that would like to show off their culinary skills. Lester and Billy already seemed to be touted by others as the group cooks so I figure they'd be up for the challenge.

I need to know ASAP if we want to make this part of the rally. Here in TX you need to get up early and be quick to get the good fresh roadkill :drive1: . With the economy being what it is competition is getting really tough out there.

Judging would be done in 3 categories:

Main dish (entrees)
Side Dishes
Deserts

I will try to start a Poll in the Poll Forum. If enough want to get envolved then we can get a list of who and what catagory, catagories they want to enter.

Sorry to hear that, Jerry. I was looking forward to meeting a lot of the Southeastern Camper's. Even the pranksters! Maybe we'll run into you at another rally.

i talked to jerry this weekend.
he's real sad that he cant make the fall rally.
but he said that things still may happen even if he's not around.
so watch out.. im sure he can still make things happen.

i just added the 2 families (alabama dave) talked about.

that makes us up to 27 families for this rally.
that is the largest group camping trip yet.
if anyone is not on the list please let me know.

Wait a minute! The reservation list has Gilligan on site 199. There is no site 199. I guess this is typical for Gilligan. Posted Image

That Gilligan is a rascal, isn't he! ;)
Hope he brings some more of Mary Ann's Coconut Cream Pies to the Rally. Those last ones he brought were good! :licklips:

I hope you bring that groovy transistor radio with the endlessly rechargeable battery with you. Maybe we can listen to some music from the "The Mosquitoes".

It's cuz we're all so sad that you won't be there, Mac. Somehow we will spring back and make the most of it, but it won't be easy!
Seriously, sorry you can't make it.
