Don't mean to hijack the thread, but this topic reminded me of a question I had. On my 23KRS I stood on a ladder and pretty much condition and sealed everything I needed from the side. Occasionally I would have to crawl onto the top structure to seal some things, but never had to stand up and walk around. This 5'er is so big there's no way I can just lean over the edge.
We've all heard that Keystone says not to walk on the roof (which kills me because they mounted a ladder in the back), but how many of you actually do? Short periods won't hurt it........ right? I've seen techs at the shop do it installing vent covers. Thoughts anyone?

Mike, no problem hijacking but since this topic is important on its own I thought it needed a thread of it's own. I moved it and started a new thread for you. Now back to the question.
Mike, you know how big I am and I walk on mine all the time. Keystone said not to walk on travel trailers roofs but the fifth wheels had a stronger deck that you can walk on. What I have always been told is, "if it has a ladder you can walk on the roof".

Leon's right in my opinion. At the PDI, the tech said it was OK to walk on. I do try to step close to the trusses and spread my weight out. Every now and then I hear a creak when I walk, but so far no problem. I stand on mine to wash it, reapply dicor, mods for vents, etc.

I have found it is OK to walk on the roof as long as you make sure to step only where there are metal roof trusses. They are easy to see when you are up there. If you need to perform maintenance on something some people use a small sheet of plywood to kneel on. Wear soft sticky, non-marking shoes and you should be fine.

That's what I figured but wanted to ask. When the tech installed my vent cover on the 23KRS I saw him walking around up there like nobody's business. I figure they make that disclosure so nobody will go to a NASCAR race and hang out up there with all their friends. Thanks for the input.

At the factory rally I ask about walking on the roof. The regional managers said that in05 they changed. The decking on all the outbacks and that it was ok to walk about for service.
