How about something around Chattanooga, maybe south into Alabama. I don't want to go back to Sequoya Caverns again but there should be others.

Since we were thinking about Chattanooga for the Fall Rally next year, it might be better to go somwheres else (but anywhere is good).

Leon mentioned something earlier about a Lake Hartwell COE park. How 'bout GA Veterans? or High Falls? or Lake Gunthersville State Park in AL? Anyone ever been to Florence Marina State Park? Can ya tell I wanna be on a lake? ;)

Hey Joe, what can you tell us about Blythe Island and do you have any pictures?

How 'bout Skidaway? Is that too far for most people? Never been to either Blythe or Skidaway... How would the bugs be in late April?

If I've done this correctly, you should be able to click on the link below and see the pictures from Blythe Island. There are about a dozen sites that are facing the lake. The rest of them are deeper into the wooded area. Some are nearly secluded. The entire area is beautifully maintained. We saw work crews working every day cleaning the bathrooms, emptying garbage, doing landscaping chores, etc. There is a nice covered area where you could have a pot luck dinner and there is no charge to use it. You do have to reserve it though. If I remember correctly, the campsites were about $30.00 per night. They have full hook up with cable TV and Wi-Fi internet. Each site has a picnic table on a concrete pad and a fire ring. Some of the drive through sites were huge! However, none of those faced the lake. The one drawback about a spring ralley in southeast GA, would be the sand gnats. In SE GA, Spring and Fall are the worst times for the bitting pests. When temps are in the 60's and 70's with little to no breeze, they can be bad! We were there at the end of October and the gnats were not bad. I dunno!
There is swimming in the fresh water lake, nature trails and fishing. If you fish in the lake, there is a $5.00 charge per person per day. If you kayak or canoe in the lake, you are charged the same fee. When I asked why, the lady replied that I could fish if I was on the lake! Anyway, I'm sure the fee went towards the maintanence of the campground, so I didn't mind paying it. Overall, I give Blythe Island 2 thumbs up! I'll be returning there. That said, Jekyll Island is also nice. Since I'm home nursing a killer cold, I'll also post pics and narrative for Jekyll.

Looks like I screwed up twice! The link doesn't work and the pictures didn't end up in the "Campground" gallery. Look in the members gallery and look for Joe/GA.

The bugs seem to bite when the temps are the nicest for us Humans! The hotter it is, the less the sand gnats will bother us. Mosquitoes don't mind the heat as much. :(

Looks like a great place to put on the list to visit - maybe in Feb? or March? (hmmm, Austin has a week off from school in Feb) . . .

Adding to the choice list: Stone Mtn. The more we look at Florence Marina SP, the better it looks too. Feedback?

<Hijack p.s>: How do you guys get pics uploaded so easily? It's always a pain when we try it so we must be doing something wrong.

Thanks Leon! If you want to move the whole shebang to the campground gallery, that would be a good thing. That's where I intended it to be.

Yup. I don't know about the bugs either. It could be a great time or a disaster.

I always create a temporary folder on my desktop and move all of the pictures into that folder. Then I reduce all of them to 800 X 600. Then, in the gallery, I browse to that folder. Is that the part you have trouble with?

Florence Marina SP looks nice, but only 43 camp sites. I plugged in some data for the middle of the month and it said only 36 sites available. Everyone would have to move fast.
Fort McAllister is a neat looking place. We drove through there several months ago and decided we would camp there soon. They have 65 lots. Again, I don't know about bugs.

I wouldn't mind somewhere close to the Jockey Lot.

We stayed at Stone Mountain last year. The park is super, however the campground is beginning to get run down. The site we stayed at had a picnic table bench broken, and the site down from us was so unlevel, the guy had a real hard time getting setup.

Of course, the laser show is great, but I am not sure it goes on all week in the early spring, just on weekends I think.

I also love taking the cable car up to the top and walking down the backside trail, then take the train back to the parking lot.

I am going to drive over to Florence Marina one day this week and check it out. I will let you know what I find out.

What dates are we looking at?
