We are getting together with Billy (Jambalaya) at Fort Pickens, FL to sit on the beach and watch the Blue Angels preform. This is an invitation for anybody and everybody to come and join us. We will be pulling into Fort Pickens on Thursday, July 8th and pulling out that Sunday. Grab your beach chair and cooler full of cool ones and come on down and join us.

Sorry about that. It is in July not March. It's fixed.

Leon -

I've never ventured out to Fort Pickens before, though I have seen the practice day for the air show right at the base of the PB bridge several years ago. Can you see the practice session or air show from the campground?

JT, I have never been to Ft Pickens myself. Billy told me you can sit on the beach and watch them practice. The runway is right across the bay from the campground so you can see it all according to Billy. He said it is just like watching a show and you are relaxed and kicked back sitting on the beach. What more can you ask for. Come on down and join us if you can. We have reservations in the E loop.

The last time we camped at Ft Pickens, when the Blue Angels were in town, they practiced right over the campground. The view from the cg itself was a little obscured by trees, but if you go out onto the beach, you should have good visibility. The cg is no more than about 2 air miles from NAS, just right across the bay.
And Leon, if you are in "E" loop, it is an easy walk to the bay side beach, but about a half-mile to the Gulf side.
Also, don't get site E-4. Though it is right next to the path to the bay-side beach, it is also next to some dumpsters...and those dumpsters were pretty ripe when we were there. (Not quite up to Topsail Site #71 standards, but close.) This is assuming they haven't re-arranged things since rebuilding after the hurricanes.
Sure wish we could come down and join you guys, but just coming off that long period of unemployment, we will be lucky just to keep the Outback...leave alone be able to go on a long trip with it. :(

What I was trying to ascertain was the difference between the Angel's regular practice sessions when in town and the Pensacola Beach Air Show dry run they do before the main show. My understanding was that they are done in different places. In 2003 we caught the practice session before the PB Air Show, and it was right along the beach front close to the bridge over from Gulf Breeze to Pensacola Beach. We were on the waterfront and they were performing right in front of us. That would be about 6 miles from the campground. I can understand that their regular practices could be seen from the campground, but the air show practice????

I attached a picture from the practice session.

I believe the time we saw them, it was just a regular practice. They are "homeported" at NAS Pensacola, so they are in town quite a bit between shows.
