I have been biting the bullet on this one too, so I guess we will bow out as well. I'm so sad that we won't get to see our SE friends again this year. Sorry Mike because I know you've worked hard to put this together.

Well guys..... I have to say I'm not surprised.

Marcy and I have deliberated over this topic for several weeks. I was really looking forward to this trip and hoping my first go at a large scale rally would be a success. Unfortunately the economy, fuel prices and life in general just don't appear to be cooperating. So, with great pain and sorrow I must announce that we will also be canceling our trip to Charleston.

We have two other couples who had planned on attending with us; one of which is already listed on the confirmed reservations (Tom&Vickie), and a new member to the forum (TooManyToys). Tonight we all met and discussed their options and plans, too. Each of them also agreed the trip would be a little too much and they will also be canceling.

I apologize to all and wish things could have been different. For those that still plan on attending I hope you have a blast. Charleston is a really neat place and will be a vacation destination for us in the future. The dinner cruise reservation has been canceled and I will hopefully be able to get a refund on my deposit. If anyone would like the companies website and info please let me know. For any of you that plan on attending make sure to drink a cold one for us. Again, I apologize and feel terrible this year's summer rally turned out the way it did.

Mike, don't feel discouraged. You did a bang up job and put in a lot of work into this rally. Probably cost you some money. If it did, I will get with the others and see what we can do to fix that, if we can. It is the times that we are in that disrupted this rally. I am not going to get into politics but I am looking at Washington D.C as the cause. I am sure it was going to be one of those rallies that everyone would have remembered. Maybe next year will be better who knows. It is all a crap shoot. Someone could plan a rally and the weather could be terrible the whole time or it could be perfect. I have been on camping trips where the weather was terrible the whole time we were there, Carmen does Vogel State Park ring a bell. Posted Image There are certain things that we can not control and weather, the economy, and gas prices are just a few. So let's just wish for a perfect week next year for the summer rally.

well guys, I guess the trip to Charleston just wasn't meant to be. :( so guess we won't be going either. Maybe we can re-schedule in the future, when gas prices are better. Thanks Mike, for all your hard work. I was really looking forward to the dinner cruise, it was a great idea. The fall rally is so far away, maybe we could all get together later in the summer (like July) at someplace much closer (like GA). What do ya'll think? Can't wait to see ya again. Happy Camping.

I have put a cancellation message on the opening post of this thread. I didn't want to do this until all the people had cancelled out. I am truly sorry it came down to this, but there is nothing we can do about the economy and gas prices. Let's give a big thanks to Mike who has put in a lot of hours and work into getting this rally together. Mike, job well done. Let's just hope we can all get together next summer for a rally.

Mike, I have to echo what the others have said. You did a great job and we appreciate everything that you did. And, of course, you did not raise the price of fuel. Or did you!? :D

That said, I have not canceled my reservations yet. Is there anyone still going?

LOL, if I had I probably would be able to afford the fuel. Thanks everyone, I really wish it could have been different. We've decided to go to Myrtle Beach during the same time frame, maybe not as long as initially due to the CG prices being higher. Anyway, hope everyone has a great summer and maybe someone will throw a makeshift rally towards the end.

Well, we have made a decision. We are going to find another campground that's closer to us, as well. We went to James Island last year, so without all you SE Campers there, there's no point in going again. Hopefully, the economy will turn around and we can have more rally's. Like Mike said, y'all have a great summer!

Leon or Rev,

Since we're associated with the other sites (D&T, Jims, etc.), what about seeing if they'll post our rally (summer and fall) on their sites. I know OB probably won't, but I dont see why the others wouldn't assist. We may be able to get some additional attendees. What do you think?

Mike

Mike/Leon/Rev,
I can't speak for Jim's But I can't believe he wouldn't be fine with it, I can speak for D&T with a fair amount of confidence........ They, i am sure would be fine with it. I think our cross advertising of our rallies on different sites helps give all the different members so new opportunities to hit some different regions with some good people!!
