Money sent to secampers@gmail.com for our dinner cruse + 3%.

So why the question mark by Lamar's smoked butt? :whistling:

I want to help with the main meat dish for the potluck since Leon and others always do it. I don't have a smoker grill, but since I have family on James Island, I can snag their 3 burner weber and cook some of my brother-in-laws famous pork tenderloin receipt. I can even get him to pre make them up so I can just plop them down and cook. I think I could get 5 or 6 of those things going. What do you think?

well clayton the ? was from me.
my "butts" will never be as good as billys. BUT i plan on cooking two for the pot luck.
i welcome all the help you want to do as far as cooking.
i'll have room on my smoker if you want to use it. (its the same one billy has) :) :)

I know a few years ago at topsail we all got together that day and cooked it all at once.
im sure we'll do that again, it was a blast.

Leon or Rev,

Since we're associated with the other sites (D&T, Jims, etc.), what about seeing if they'll post our rally (summer and fall) on their sites. I know OB probably won't, but I dont see why the others wouldn't assist. We may be able to get some additional attendees. What do you think?

I have spoken with a few members and the idea of canceling the dinner cruise has been suggested. Fuel prices are on the rise and cost of even making the trip will be high. If the majority of the group cancels the dinner cruise, anyone who still wishes to attend can do so as individuals.

Also, keep in mind this rally could be canceled altogether. Many of you (to include myself) will not be able to bare the cost of fuel if diesel prices reach $5.00 a gallon. Some of you may have already made the decision to back out. If you have, please go ahead and let us know so we can judge attendance and make a decision. I'm hoping none of this will be necessary. However, if everything I've read about the price of fuel is true, each of us will be forced to make a decision.

Thanks,

Mike

mike i think your saying what many here are thinking. high gas prices. :pullhair:
im going to wait as long as i can as see how high they go before i cancel.

i dont think we should cancel the rally at all.
dont get me wrong here. but a rally is great with 100 people or just 10..
i say lets keep our fingers crossed , let whoever wants to go still go.

you have worked too hard to just give it up. im sure some will still want to go. its a great place to camp and see.
ive been wanting to go back for years.

just me , lamar

We still plan to be there. Maybe we won't spend as much money on other stuff. Also, Mike, we are still planning on the dinner cruise. If everyone drops out, we probably will too. Like Lamar said, if it's 100 or 10, we'll still have a good time. Start putting some extra money aside each week for fuel! :)

Don't get me wrong, I'm not suggesting we cancel now. I'm just stating the obvious, as I'm sure many of you can agree. I look forward to seeing everyone on the list and we're still planning on making the trek. These are just things that need to be considered.

Saving for fuel is exactly what we're trying to do. We look to spend in excess of 500 bucks in fuel, easily. That's just something which (for me) is difficult to swallow. Keep your fingers crossed and hope for the best.

Yup. It would cost me close to $173.00 at our current price. If gas went to $5.00 a gallon, it would cost me about $286.00 by my calculations. Still a lot, but not nearly waht it would cost you, Mike. I sure hope prices drop for your sake and everyone else's sake.

We were going from Thursday to Sunday then drive from there to Anastasia for the week. Too much expense for such a short time frame and work will prohibit me from taking that much time off. We decided last weekend to skip the rally but not cancel the site in case someone needed it.

I agree with Lamar that it doesn't matter if its 4 or 40 to make a rally and have a great time.

Margaret and I have been discussing the options whether we can attend the summer rally are not, based on the rising fuel prices. It is looking like the prices are going to continue to rise and not fall. So we have decided with heavy hearts we will not be attending this years summer rally. We were so much looking forward to this rally. We have always wanted to go to Charleston for a long time. This will be the first summer rally we have missed since we started attending them about 6 years ago. Mike, I know you have put a lot of work into this rally and I know it is going to be one of the best summer rallies to date, but it is just not feasible for us to attend. I just can not see spending more money on just getting there and back home than we would spend on fuel for all the camping trips we go on all year all. I know this is going to be a great rally and hope everyone has a great time. For the remaining part of the year, we are planning our trips closer to home. Maybe next year will be better for fuel prices.

I will hang on to my site just in case anyone might need one.

Leon.

I hate to hear you guys wont make it. I'm remaining optimistic but I don't believe you will be the last. I cringe every time I fill up my truck. Keeping our fingers crossed. If anyone else has made the same decision please speak up so we can get a feel for the attendance.

To everyone interested in the dinner cruise............ I am going to cancel the reservation for the group. Many of you have spoken openly and/or sent me PMs saying the funds just aren't there; we're in the same dilemma. Those of you that still wish to go may do so. You'll just have to make your own reservation and go direct with the company. I believe the cost will rise by 10%. I will discuss with Leon and Reverie about refunding anyone who has already paid. I will delay this cancellation by a few days to give people a chance to chime in.

Thanks.

Mike

Yup. I too hate to hear of people canceling, but I understand. So far, we are still planning to be there and we still want to do the dinner cruise. However, that said, my DW has been sick and out of work for a week. If I don't get her back to work soon, we may have to cut back on expenses. Times are tough.

Greetings, my fellow SECampers. I come before you with a heavy heart. (My apologies to LBJ)
Given the run-up in the price of gas, and the fact it is approximately 400 miles each way for us, we have no choice but to cancel. This was a hard decision to make, as we were looking forward to this trip. Until (if ever) the price of gas comes down, we will most likely be keeping our trips a little closer to home. Fortunately, Virginia has some good State Parks, a few of which are fairly close to us. Maybe we can squeeze in a trip to First Landing SP at the beach later on this summer. It is only about 240 miles away, so even with the high gas prices, that would still be affordable.

bob, im sorry to see this..
but im in the same boat. we are holding on as long as we can.
but looks like it will be just too much for us too..

my i suggest if things keep going like this..
why dont we plan on different summer rally trips around the southeast.
maybe not all at the same time.
example. one here in south ga.
one at the beach some place.
one up north in tn or ky.
and one even to the south west.

AND STILL KEEP THE CHARLESTON TRIP.. its a great place to camp.

that way we all still get to camp for a week
but not have to get a loan to pay for gas.
what does the group think of this????

will miss seeing you all this summer..

Well I guess we have to join the losers club. We have a number of issues going on, the gas of course. It is 753 miles one way. Kevin has been having trouble with his Atrail Fibillation again. The episodes are every two days now. So we can't be that far from home until we have, this under control. We have a great site if anyone wants it , 108. We also need a new hot water system, so I guess I will have to miss out on the nice warm ocean that I love, until next year. We love you guys and have soo much fun with everyone. Good luck with all the new rigs!

Until we meet again, Kathy and Kevin

This is all so depressing. We still plan to attend, I figure the money saved from the dinner cruise will make up the difference in the gas prices. We love Charleston and this camp ground is great, and we want to get away from all this tornado destruction so we’re still pushing ahead with the trip. Nothing beats the cost of the Topsail trip a few years back when gas prices were kissing the $5 mark and that distance is about the same for us. We’ve also saved a bunch of money because we haven’t bought a new camper (jealous icon……)

I need to add my voice to the chorus, it looks like we will not be there. I really hate to miss this since KD and I have always wanted to visit Charleston. Unfortunately our problem(s) are we have her Father fighting cancer and my Mother and her husband fighting cancer. We run back and forth between three hospitals and three homes. We hated the gas prices but we figured it was just the price we pay to be part of the greatest camping group around. We will reevaluate as we get closer but I think it isn't going to play out for us this year. I am going to go ahead and bag our reservation since our site was away from everyone else. Mike, I hate that you and your family were put to so much trouble, especially since we were some of the greatest boosters for this trip. Please no that your hard work and time you put into this is noticed and greatly appreciated. I hope to see all of you in the future.

If we can squeeze in a short (three day or shorter) trip to the coast later on this summer we hope to find some place with a beach but this may be a fresh water summer.

I'm sad to see the cancellations................ expected, but sad nevertheless. We are also in the evaluation phase.

Just a note, I will be canceling the dinner cruise in the morning. Anyone would like the contact so they may arrange a personal cruise, PM me and I will forward you the companies information. Thanks.

Mike
