We are off, once again, to Claytor Lake SP near Dublin, VA. Claytor Lake SP Through most of August, I relentlessly pinged ReserveAmerica, hoping to catch a cancellation for Labor Day weekend at one of the nearby state parks, and also First Landing SP over at the coast. Last week I finally snagged an opening at Claytor Lake. Most of the parks were booked for Labor Day many months ago, so it takes a little perseverance (and unlimited computer access at work) to do this. Now given the current weather situation at the coast, I'm glad I didn't catch a cancellation at First Landing. And speaking of Hurricane Earl, it is not without it's effect on us. Rebecca is chickening-out riding the storm out in Norfolk, and is headed to our house, even as I type. (She had to evacuate Pasacgoula back when Katrina hit, so she must attract hurricanes.) So she and Logan will be joining us on this trip. (Taylor is already here, going to school. Norfolk schools suck.) Her DH will be staying behind to batten down the hatches on his ship, which is stuck in port for repairs/maintenance, and can't sortie to open waters like most of the others are going to do. That ship, as well as the others in it's class, have been plagued with problems ever since commissioning. Gilligan must moonlight at Northrop-Grumman.

We have returned, safe and sound. Since it was Labor Day (rookie camping weekend), the CG was full and noisy, but we still had a great time. The weather was absolutely perfect all 5 days. Claytor Lake is one of the better state parks we have been to, and I would recommend it to anyway passing through this way.

Bob, that is one good looking camp site. Will have to keep this campground on my list for when Margaret and I head up that way.
