I think I should bring all of our camping friends up to date on what is going on around the Robinson household. First of all I hope nobody has been offended by my lack of communication over the last several months. I'm pretty sure you haven't but thought I should mention that. Secondly, there are some things going on that have the potential to impact our camping for a while.
My Mother's lung cancer has returned. She had most of lung removed a couple of years ago and at that time they said they thought this had the potential, even likelihood it would return. For the experienced, this has shown up in her lymph nodes and they are they nodes that cannot be surgically removed SO she is undergoing both chemo and radiation. She is a pretty tough cookie but this is a pretty tough adversary when you are 77 years old so it will be quite a battle.
My Mother is the sole caregiver for her 86 year old husband, Jack. Back in July of 2010 Jack had a biopsy performed and the good old government-run VA "misplaced his results". Well, they magically reappeared last week and he has colon cancer. Since the VA was nice enough to give it a nice running start, we have to go back through the entire diagnostic process again but I can assure you, it isn't looking really good right now for Jack. As the VA Doctor told me, "Well, Jack's 86 years old. Something is going to get him eventually." Those of you close to me know that I can be both persistent and vengeful. I have spent the better part of a week at the VA Hospital in Atlanta making a nuisance of myself, explaining that since they inflicted the almost certain death sentence, they can get off their lazy butts and get this into the system as soon as possible. If anyone supports the concept of Government-run healthcare, please feel free to accompany us on this journey.
My brother and I live in Atlanta. My Mom lives in Clarkesville, about 110 miles away. Every day we have to drive to Clarkesville, then drive to Gainesville (about 40 miles), back to Clarkesville and then home again. We take Jack with us as we go. We are on the cusp of making some very difficult decisions on behalf of some elderly people and I suspect it will not be pretty.
We are signed up for a lot of campouts this year and we intend to make them. Our participation will be driven by outside events even more than usual, so please bear with us as we figure it all out. Thanks to God that we have the abilities to help. Thanks to God for his blessings. Thank you for listening. You are all a blessing to me and my family.

Nick, our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. I know first hand what you are going through. It is not a pretty site and it can act on every emotion in you being. I am feeling your hurt and your feeling of something you do not have control of. It can be a trying time. We are here if you need any of us. May God be with you and your family.

Nick and K.D., I am so sorry to hear what you and your family are going through. Years ago, when we couldn't afford the gas for the trip, we were making several trips a week from SE GA to Gainsville, FL. Our 13 year old niece was dying of cancer and she eventually lost her battle with this awful disease. I pray that the good Lord helps your Mom and Jack in their fight and helps you and your family to be strong. May God bless you all and ease your pain. We will keep you all in our prayers.

Gosh, Nick. I'm so sorry and I feel your frustration on this. The only thing I can do to help you is keep your family in my prayers, so this I will do. If you need anything else, please let us know. I've been here and understand.
